Why Your Business Needs to Be on TikTok in 2026

By José Raúl Ramírez 7 min read

Two years ago, when we told a business owner they should be on TikTok, the reaction was almost always the same: "That's for teenagers who dance." That conversation has changed completely.

TikTok has over a billion active users. And here is what matters most for a business: its algorithm is the only one left in social media that lets you reach people who do not follow you, without paying for ads.

In marketing, that is gold.

Why TikTok is different from Instagram or Facebook

On Instagram and Facebook, organic reach for a business page is dead. If you have 10,000 followers and publish something, maybe 300 people see it. The rest see it only if you pay.

TikTok works the other way around. The algorithm distributes your content to people who have never heard of you, based on how much viewers engage with it in the first minutes. A business with 200 followers can land a video with 50,000 views if the content hooks.

That does not exist on any other platform today.

What kind of content works for businesses

The most common mistake is trying to replicate on TikTok what works on Instagram — pretty photos, motivational quotes, a product catalog. That content fails on TikTok because the platform is built around video and authenticity.

What does work:

Honest behind-the-scenes

Show how you do what you do, without over-editing. A repair shop working through a tough fix. A restaurant preparing its most popular dish. People watch this content because it feels real.

Answering your industry's questions

"What does it really cost to remodel a bathroom?" "What happens if my taxes are behind?" Videos that answer the questions people have but do not know who to ask build trust and position the business as the expert.

Before and after

It works in almost any industry — construction, aesthetics, fitness, marketing. The human brain is wired to compare.

The time to get in is now

TikTok for business is still early compared to what Instagram was in 2015. The businesses that get in now, build an audience and learn the algorithm will have an enormous head start over the ones that wait.

In two or three years, TikTok's organic reach will drop — the way Facebook's and Instagram's did. It always happens. The question is whether you build your presence before or after that moment.

Where to start without wasting time

Start with one video a week. You do not need elaborate production — you need consistency and content that answers your customers' real questions. The phone in your pocket is enough to begin.
